Slow Down, You Move Too Fast
Many days feel like marathons, moving as fast as we can just to keep from falling behind. We try our best to stay calm while we race out the door in the morning, get the children to school or daycare, and ourselves to work on time.

Does your schedule lighten up during the summer months? Maybe there will be a day you can slow down and make the morning last a bit longer. Some parents believe they are depriving their children of extremely important experiences if they do not sign them up for several opportunities every summer.

One of the reasons we get so busy is there are so many attractive and important opportunities to offer our children. While enjoying these upcoming summer months, why not focus your efforts on staying well, remembering balance, and making choices and decisions that work for you and your family? Someone else can teach your children to pitch or hit, get the chord right, or move the ball downfield, but no one else will teach your children about staying healthy.

So, this summer, I encourage you to make an effort slow down. Do what you can to avoid the trap of being so busy you spend more time driving your children places than you do connecting with them in your home. If last summer was a bit too hectic, plan to sign up for less this summer. Develop a family schedule that permits you to see your friends once in a while, get your workout in regularly, breathe in and breathe out. Parenting is so much more than just signing your children up for things and getting them there. Enjoy your summer and remember to take time for yourself!
